The Blind Support Association (BSA) expresses its deepest outrage over the appalling incident in Lahore, where a mentally challenged young girl was allegedly raped inside Ghaziabad police station by an Assistant Sub‑Inspector (ASI). This crime is a grave violation of human dignity and a betrayal of the trust placed in law enforcement.

At the same time, BSA acknowledges and appreciates the swift and unprecedented departmental action taken by the authorities. The suspension of the entire staff of the Ghaziabad police station — 78 officials including the Station House Officer and investigation wing in‑charge — demonstrates a serious commitment to accountability and justice. Such decisive measures send a strong message that negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated within institutions entrusted with public safety.

BSA calls for:

  • Transparent and speedy trial of the perpetrator to ensure justice for the survivor.
  • Institutional reforms to prevent recurrence, including mandatory presence of female personnel when women or girls are brought to police stations.
  • Specialized training for police officials to handle cases involving persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups with sensitivity.
  • Holistic support services — medical, psychological, and legal — for the survivor and her family.

This incident underscores the urgent need for systemic safeguards to protect vulnerable individuals. While we condemn the heinous act, we also recognize the importance of the corrective steps taken, which must be followed through with lasting reforms.

BSA stands in solidarity with the survivor and her family, and we urge all stakeholders to work together to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done.
